“As a young baseball fan, my desire to broadcast the game after my playing career stemmed from late nights listening to some of the greatest wordsmiths navigate through a 9-inning game. They connected themselves and the players with the audience. Now, I want to help the next generation of baseball fans feel connected to the game and their favorite players.”

Meet Luke Moehle

I got my start in the sports broadcast industry as a high school sophomore. I began working for NorN Productions covering local high school and college athletics including baseball, football and basketball. I quickly fell in love with the art of finding storylines and navigating an audience through the action. I chose to attend the University of Missouri - Columbia to sharpen my skills.

While at Missouri, I served in a multitude of roles. As a member of the radio station, KCOU 88.1FM, I hosted and produced a weekly sports talk show, wrote weekly columns on various topics within the industry of sport and conducted radio broadcasts for Tiger baseball, basketball, football, volleyball and soccer.

My first job in television came my Freshman year of college working for the local NBC affiliate, KOMU 8, as a reporter for their high school football coverage. I then began working 3 times a week in the newsroom pitching stories, collecting video, conducting interviews and editing multiple packages for the 5 & 6PM newscasts. This experience sharpened my interviewing and editing skills, while showing me how to look for stories that needed to be told.

During my Junior year, I was approached with an opportunity to broadcast baseball for Westminster College. This was the first time that I was able to follow one team over the course of an entire season. I created stat packs, game notes and broadcasted all home games via Youtube. This experience allowed me to see a full season of baseball from the booth, helping me to understand the best approach for finding storylines, enabling me to learn the production process and media relations responsibilities.

After earning my first degree from Mizzou in only three years, I made the decision to stay an extra semester in order to earn my second degree in Sport Management. I finished up my classes in the fall and returned home to Kansas City with the goal of boosting my resume and learning new skills. I was hired at Spectrum Sports Kansas City to do a variety of behind the scenes work such as running the baseline cameras, “red hatting”, and production. My passion is broadcasting, so while working with Spectrum, I was hired as a broadcaster for UClick TV to broadcast an array of sports. My main event as a broadcaster was the inaugural 12 Courts of Christmas event where I called 24 high school basketball games over the span of 11 days.

I also worked for a podcast company called PostGame Recap, where I was responsible for recruiting high school football programs to join our free program that helped the community connect with the coaches and players of their local team. After onboarding a school, I would then begin contacting businesses in the area to find an ideal candidate for an advertising spot. This funding paid the salaries of all employees involved and allowed schools that were not generally receiving weekly coverage to have their voices and stories heard. I represented 8 schools during both seasons that I was with PostGame Recap. For each school I recruited 2 sponsors, conducted a weekly interview with the head coach, edited and promoted the podcast on social media.

As a kid it was always my dream to play in the Cape Cod Baseball League. After attending Missouri with the intent of playing baseball, my passion for broadcast led me down a different path. At that moment, I knew one day I would like to get to the Cape. I had the opportunity to serve as the Director of Broadcast and Media Relations for the Orleans Firebirds in 2022. The CCBL provided me with an opportunity of a lifetime to refine my skills as a media professional. Serving as a broadcaster for all 46 games, doing a Youtube simulcast for home games and radio on the road. I also served as a bullpen catcher for the team in the weeks leading up to the season opener. This experience allowed me to get into a similar routine to that of professional baseball, calling games almost every day, producing game notes, conducting interviews, and creating stat packs.

In the fall of 2022 I was named the primary broadcaster for Johnson County Community College, serving as the producer and play-by-play broadcaster for all home men’s and women’s basketball games as well as baseball games. While my title did not consist of any media relations work, I worked as the liaison between visiting media and coaches, scheduled and conducted player and coach interviews and updated any roster changes.

In 2023, I had the opportunity to work with the Kansas City Royals in their media relations department. In my 8 months with the team, I conducted extensive research and compiled data from various sources such as Baseball Reference’s StatHead tool, StatsPass and the MLB Research Portal to be featured in daily Royals game notes, stat packs, press releases and other distributed material. On top of creating game notes, I analyzed statistics and upcoming milestones to be written as short-form player notes to be featured in-venue during games on the scoreboard at Kauffman Stadium.

I spent this past season with the Texas Rangers Double-A affiliated Frisco RoughRiders in broadcast and media relations. My time in Frisco included doing-play-by play broadcasts for 100 games, including hosting a pre and postgame show every night that featured interviews with players and coaches. I was also responsible for writing postgame recap stories and press releases on various topics such as former players making MLB debuts, All-Star selections, promotional information and more. For home games, I aided in producing and distributing game notes, stat packs, stat sheets and  lineups. I was able to sharpen my on camera presence with live pregame opens as well as weekly homestand preview videos while alos serving as the host and producer for our podcast, "Riders Report: The Podcast".
